Different Types of Horse Jumps

A Guide to Horse Jump Obstacles:



Vertical: A jump consisting of poles placed vertically on top of each other with no spread.










Oxer: Two verticals close together to widen the jump. (Spread)













Triple Bar: Spread fence with 3 jumps of different heights.

Cross Rail: Two jump poles that form an "x". The jump is lower in the middle and is commonly used for beginners.

Liverpool:Pool of water under a vertical or oxer.


















Bounce: Multiple fences with no strides in between the jumps















Brush Fence: Fence with a solid bottom with brush on top.

















Wall: Solid jump that is usually made to resemble brick or stone, but is made of lightweight material.














Hogsback: Spread with 3 rails, and the tallest rail is the highest.












Bank: Jumps that go from one level to another.




















Filler: The part below some fences, like flowers, gates, boxes, or rolltops.















Combination: Combination of 2 or 3 jumps in a row.















Open Water: Wide gulley of water

 

Rollkur: Training or Torture?

I really am no dressage expert,but I know what rollkur is. Hyperflexion as it is sometimes called, I think is cruel. I really do not see it as a training aid no matter what Anky has to say about it. I have heard of horse's tongues turning blue from this maneuver from lack of oxygen. The drooling caused by it is disgusting also. What do you think? Training or Torture?

This horse misjudged the height of this jump or something, but i do not care because he blew my mind! I am a huge fan of show jumping and i think he could dominate London this year. What do you think?

Crazy People at Your Boarding Stable

We all know those people at the stable who are a couple fries short of a Happy Meal. I have dealt with quite a few at my current stable. The one I most commonly encounter is the "I-am-a-professional- horse-trainer-when-I-am-in-a-green-class" riders. They try to give you riding advice about how to properly train your horse. For example, a couple weeks ago I forgot I took all my tack out of my car. I drive to my stable blissfully unaware of my impending doom. I have to ride bareback because I am not driving 45 minutes back. This normally wouldn't be a problem, but unfortunately Chance the Pants is having some personal issues these days. He refuses at solid jumps like boxes, naturals, etc. I am riding along and he is actually jumping the boxes until we get to the stone wall of death. He flat out dives out and I stay on until he decides to plow throw the bit into a gallop. The arena fence was my landing destination Everyone saw me fall including "George Morris Jr." I bring him over to the mounting block and she decides to give me some "friendly" advice about how if I am scared of the jump he won't take it.DUH! I do ride you know. I watched her lesson with interest to see what kind of rider she was. She trotted over ground poles. I really do not have a problem with people who are in the beginning levels of the sport, but please do not give advice to upper level riders.

I do not really like Paris Hilton nor do I know anyone who does and this brought me and Chance great joy to see.

Moving Boarding Stables

My first post on my blog! I told the Chance the news, and he didn't really seem to care and just went back to lounging in his fan. Oh well, he acts indifferent, but inside he's doing the horse macarana of happiness for me.

I am actually in the process of moving him to another boarding stable than the one I am currently at. The main thing is with the place I am now has no grass. I NEED GRASS! When searching for my baby's new bachelor pad I looked for a few select things:

• GRASS PASTURE!
• Indoor arena for inclement weather
• Outdoor arena for when it is similar to the African Sahara
• Small-ish barn, like 40-50 stalls
• Good jumper trainer
• Like 20 minutes away from my house
• Within a reasonable price, 300-600 dollars
• Tack Rooms
• 24 Barn Supervision
• NO ACTIVITY FEES (I hate these with a passion)
• Reasonable Lesson Prices
• Nice facilities
